Hear ye! Hear ye. Samantha Wass is now the ‘Bring Back St Blaise’s Festival’ Stuff Merchant.

The St. Blaise’s Festival in Bradford was organised by the woolcombers, but ‘stuff merchants’ were amongst the most important backers of the festival. What a stuff merchant dealt in is hard to pin down, but after a massive amount of on-line research (Like! Yer know! Over an hour I did on this stuff!) I am fairly certain ‘stuff’ was the early name for worsted, and worsted made Bradford, and worsted needed the long wool fibres (long-staple) that you could only get from woolcombing.

So, like Samantha, stuff merchants probably did all that was needed to make things work and keep things moving; and Bradford benefited.

 

Advanced notice of a new Bring Back St. Blaise’s Day Festival. Around 3rd February.

I need a flyer quickly, so have produced a ‘poster’ before details are finalised. Sorry, I have not had time to add the words as a caption.

The walk is likely to be the weekend before the 3rd. I favour the Sunday. There will be a show on the 3rd. Other stuff will happen, but we cannot say what yet.
